London: The Bodley Head, (1958). First edition. Hardcover. Good / Good. Original blue cloth, lettered in gilt to the spine. The dust jacket is complete. The text block is clean and bright and the hinges strong. The difficulty with this copy is that the rear panel of the jacket adhered itself to the rear board, most likely from dampness. The jacket has been freed from the board. There is no smell or mustiness but there is a transfer of the white backing of the jacket to the board as well as a transfer of blue coloring to the white backing of the jacket. Viewed from the outside the book looks great. When reading or with normal use, the book looks great. Take the jacket off and the rear panel tells a less positive, if somewhat damp, tale. Previous owner signature to the front free endpaper.
