The Black Door

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1930. First American edition. Hardcover. Near Fine / Very Good. Original red cloth, stamped and lettered in black. 8vo - 299 pp. Knopf "Borzoi" logo stamped to the rear board. Old original bookseller's ticket to the rear paste-down. In a very nice example of the complete un-clipped original dust jacket. The jacket has some minor areas of rubbing but overall remains very bright and pleasing. With a warm, signed and dated inscription from the author to the front free endpaper - dated April 15, 1930. Set on a remote island castle off the furthest western tip of Wales at St. David's. From the inside flap - "A curse hangs over the remnants of the great family of Veryan in their castle on an island off the desolate, wind swept, coast of Wales. Even here, in this last, almost inaccessible refuge, their inhuman foe pursues them..." A one of a kind example of an excellent vintage mystery.
