Witch Wood

New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1940. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine / Near Fine. Original blue/gray cloth with lettering and design in black to the spine. A Crime Club novel. Light offsetting of the jacket flaps to the endpapers. In a bright and lovely example of the scarce dust jacket which has received minor restoration to the foot of the spine. Witch Wood is a rural summer resort area situated on a lake, consisting of a central building and many surrounding cabins. One resident, a rude and domineering man is the brother of the current owner. He pays no rent and is ungrateful for all that he is provided. But the ladies like him and tolerate him. So, when he is found dead with a gun by his hand the obvious conclusion is suicide. Except he was far too narcissistic to go that route. What else to do but call in State Homicide detective Bill French. A lovely copy of a really solid American procedural.
