The Secret Of The Morgue

New York: The Macaulay Company, (1932). First edition. Hardcover. Very Good / Near Fine. Original green cloth, lettered in yellow to the front panel and spine. The boards have minor soiling and a few spots and the spine has some vertical creasing. Previous owner name to the front paste-down. The dust jacket is bright and very pleasing though it is price-clipped. There is some minor restoration on the verso to the spine ends and flap hinges, not visible from the front. A small town is beset with several murders that the local coroners office has ruled accidental. Lawyer and criminologist Lyman K. Wilbur is called in by friends to investigate and an autopsy reveals a different and more disturbing scenario. Then more murder, arson, and bombing. A really good book with interesting characters and, for me at least, it seemed an amazing amount of drinking by everybody during this Prohibition Era setting.
