London: The Crime Club, (1939). Early Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine / Good. Original orange cloth, lettered in black to the spine. The very real fear of war hangs over this novel. Roger Bennion travels to Bacton Manor in order to investigate the claims of Professor Donachie - "War planes will be toys - battleships scrap iron." A lovely copy of the book in the scarce dust jacket which shows moderate overall wear - soiling to the rear panel, chipping to the spine ends and a closed tear at the top of the front panel near the spine. A small gift sticker to the front paste-down, hidden by the flap, with only the very charming "Daddy." The jacket is clipped. The book is an early reprint and, I believe, published in the year of origin. All of the titles listed opposite the title page precede the year 1939 and one other title, "The Nineteenth Hole Mystery," also published in 1939, is not listed.
