The book is bound in 3/4 smooth leather with marbled centers, top edge gilt. The Spine shows wear. The red leather title plate is chipped and the author name is missing altogether. Some staining to the leather on both panels. In spite of the wear the book is quite solid with very strong hinges. The large elaborate fold-out maps are present in the rear. The binding is signed by G. P. Putnam.
