The Mystery Of The Papyrus

London: Methuen & Company, (1929). Hardcover. Very Good / Good. Original green cloth, lettered in blue on the front panel and the spine. 8vo. Eight page publishers catalog at rear. 246pp. In the complete and exceedingly rare dust jacket. The front panel of the jacket is bright and in good condition. The spine is faded with text in blue maintained quite well while other shades have faded by 75%. There are stains and nicks on the spine. From the Methuen Clue Stories series. Listed in Hubin, Bleiler and Penzler's volume on Bibliomysteries. Almost certainly a first edition. What gives me pause is the 3/6 price on the spine of the jacket. A bibliomystery in that the plot hinges on a papyrus secreted out of Egypt written in three languages - two known languages, one not. Rosetta Stone anyone? Then there is murder and a missing papyrus and a pursuit. There are "Lost Race" aspects to the novel as well. Now housed in a custom drop-back box. From the Lawrence Solomon collection.

Price: $2,750.00
