Nocturne Militaire

New York: George H. Doran Company, (1927). First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine / Very Good. Original black cloth lettered in yellow on the front panel and the spine. The book has a very minor lean. On the limitation page it states: "The Limited Edition of one hundred and fifty copies of Nocturne Militaire was prepared for Mr. Springs and will be distributed privately. Copy No. 140. To those whose deeds gave me inspiration and whose kindness gave me courage, this edition is dedicated and presented. (signed in ink) Elliott White Springs." Now a very rare book. This copy comes with a "married" Grosset & Dunlap dust jacket which is just a tad too short. The jacket has archival paper tape applied to the folds of teh verso. Frequently special signed limited editions were not issued with jacket. I do not know if that is the case here. In any case, the presence of this "married" jacket does improve the visual appeal of the book. Cover art and eight illustrated plates by Clayton Knight. Springs was a much decorated World War I flying ace credited with shooting down 16 enemy planes.

Price: $450.00
