New York: Grosset & Dunlap, (1941). First edition thus. Hardcover. Near Fine / Very Good. Original blue cloth stamped in blind on the front panel and lettered in gilt on the spine. Top edge mottled. Small previous owner book-plate at the bottom of the front paste-down. The complete dust jacket has some mild rubbing and has some archival paper tape to the folds of the verso. The true first edition was published by Harpers in 1937. The book was made in to a film in 1941 starring Ray Milland, William Holden, Wayne Morris, Brian Donlevy, Constance Moore, Veronica Lake and Harry Davenport. This is the photo-play edition with eight pages of photo stills from the film. Signed on the front free endpaper by cast members Ray Milland, William Holden, and screenwriter Richard Maibaum. Additionally signed at the half-title page by the author Beirne Lay Jr., and Constance Moore. Screenwriter Richard Maibaum went on to write the scripts for thirteen James Bond films, beginning with Dr. No. This is a fine example of a truly one of a kind edition. A very good book, a very good film, and the signatures of many of the contributors.
