London: Chatto & Windus, 1933. First UK edition. Hardcover. Near Fine / Near Fine. Original red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine. 480pp. A very clean, bright and solid copy. The rare and complete dust jacket is very lovely. It has received some minor restoration at the spine ends. Compelling art work by Goetz. From a relatively small print run of approximately 2500 copies. Light In August is one of Faulkner's greatest works and it is fitting that both the US and UK first editions represent the highest level of commercial book publication - good paper and design certainly, but the art direction on the dust jackets is of the highest quality. Both publishers put something extra into these volumes, and it shows, and this example, the first UK edition, is living proof of that. The book is now housed in a custom built drop-back box.
