Atlas Of The City Of Philadelphia

Philadelphia: G. W. Bromley and Co., 1901. Hardcover. Very Good. Co-authored with Walter S. Bromley. Elephant Folio. Atlas of the City of Philadelphia complete in one volume, from actual surveys and official plans. Contains 52 double page plates - 22 1/2" by 32" - plus a double-page index map of the city in smaller scale. This page contains a legend which explains the color schemes on the map, similar to a fire-map, showing the construction materials used in each building. All maps in color. Also contained is a street index. All maps backed in linen. There is some damp-staining to the back of virtually each plate - but thankfully - the linen has served its purpose by protecting the maps. Also, thankfully, there is no odor. There are some areas of bleed-through on plates 21, 24, 27, 36, 37 and 41 - but even those are not severe. The book itself was covered in thick canvas which has also served to protect the boards. The spine is bound in leather, lettered in gilt. Maps of the kind found in this atlas are very collectible but are almost always found individually. Finding a complete volume in good condition is quite rare.
