Orlando Furioso

London: Printed for the Author, 1783. VG. Three volumes. First edition of the Hoole translation. See Bentley, Blake Books #417A. State A of the William Blake plate showing Orlando with an uprooted pine tree. Originally bound in in five volumes, this set with early 19th Century binding, combining the text into three volumes. All but one half-title has been discarded. This set is complete with the required 6 plates and 2 portrait plates but also has 12 additional plates from an un-identified later printing of this work. Bound in 1/2 polished calf, with five compartments on the spine, ruled in gilt. Each volume with two deep crimson spine labels, for title and author/volume respectively. Green marbled boards and endpapers. All edges marbled. An extremely clean, bright and solid set. Quite lovely and with the much prized Blake plate.
