London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington, 1887. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Original blue/gray cloth, lettered in gold and stamped in black. Profusely illustrated with engravings, photographs, and maps. One map in color, preceding page 1 and another color map, an elaborate folding example, precedes 32 pages of ads at the rear. Unopened and unread. I can say this with confidence as most of the pages are un-cut. This volume comes from the collection of acclaimed aviator, sailer, and adventurer, Steve Fossett. After his untimely death in 2007, his vast collection of travel and exploration books was placed at auction. This volume has Steve Fossett's book-plate on the front paste-down. The spine ends are a little pushed and there are a few minor marks to the front panel.
